Menorah Park Seniors Participate in Seniors Revolt

Menorah Park Ohio staff hosted “Seniors Revolt” an energizing Rally to encourage advocacy, which was covered by the local NBC and Fox news stations.  Menorah Park staff were on hand to help residents, family members and friends write letters to their legislators on the importance of the care they receive, especially in anticipation of the Governor’s proposed Medicaid Cuts to Ohio Nursing Homes.

Warren R. Slavin Receives the Distinguished Service Award from the Jewish Community Relations Council

Warren R. Slavin, President/CEO of Charles E. Smith Life Communities in Rockville received the Distinguished Service Award from the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) of Greater Washington at its annual gala on June 14, 2016. Slavin has served as President/CEO since 1994, first for the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington which was founded in 1910, and now for the larger corporate organization, Charles E. Smith Life Communities. In his 22 years of service, Slavin has transformed the organization in remarkable ways, developing the Charles E. Smith Life Communities system, achieving superior quality, broadening the scope of services for older adults, strengthening financial stability, and and optimizing human resources.

Under his leadership, the organization’s mission and values have served as a guide for staff, donors, and volunteers, bringing loving, high-quality care to tens of thousands of older adults and their loved ones in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.

A licensed nursing home administrator, Slavin holds an MBA in Healthcare Management from George Washington University and a BS in Pharmacy from Brooklyn College of Pharmacy in New York. His career in health management spans hospital, nursing home, and senior healthcare services. Prior to joining the Hebrew Home, Slavin was vice president, Geriatric Services, at Bon Secours Health System, responsible for senior services system-wide. He also served as CEO of Bon Secours Hospital Villa Maria Nursing Center in North Miami, Florida, and was assistant director of Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach. He has also played a vigorous and dynamic role in regional and national professional organizations including the Association of Jewish Aging Services (AJAS), the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (now LeadingAge), Kairos, and LifeSpan (where he served as chair). CESLC Board Chair Joseph B. Hoffman presented the award to Slavin. “We are grateful to JCRC for this recognition of Warren’s tremendous contribution to our community and for JCRC’s support and advocacy for our organization,” said Hoffman. More than 400 community members attended the gala.

Lowell Community Health Center Names Next CEO

Lowell Community Health Center is pleased to announce that Susan West Levine has been named the new Chief Executive Officer, effective mid-summer. Following a comprehensive national search conducted by Jeffrey Zegas and Lida Junghans of ZurickDavis, Susan will return to Massachusetts with this new position.  

Founded in 1970, Lowell Community Health Center serves as the “family doctor” for nearly half of Lowell’s population, seeking to “provide caring, quality, and culturally appropriate health services to the people of Greater Lowell, regardless of their financial status.”   Susan brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in health care, public health, and higher education.  She currently serves as a top advisor and Chief of Staff to the Johns Hopkins University Provost, directing and managing short and long term strategic priorities, many of which are aimed at distinguishing the undergraduate experience and developing and implementing strategies to ensure equity and inclusion across the university.   Prior to joining Johns Hopkins in 2014, Ms. Levine’s career spanned many segments of the Massachusetts health care arena with dedication to special and at-risk populations as a constant focus.  She served as chief executive for the 200 employees of UHealthSolutions, a nonprofit affiliate of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, where she led business development activities, oversaw operations, and secured new external partnerships that contributed to organizational growth. 

Earlier in her career, she held executive-level roles at UMass Medical School’s consulting division, Commonwealth Medicine, for 13 years.   Prior to joining Commonwealth Medicine, she worked for the Massachusetts Department of Public Health for nearly a decade and led clinical, administrative, and ambulatory care programs for Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. 

She graduated with honors from Denison University in Ohio, receiving her bachelor’s degree in economics. She earned a master’s degree in public health, with a concentration in health services from Boston University’s School of Public Health.  

We look forward to Susan’s expertise benefiting the Lowell Community Health Center and the broader community health center community.

John Silva, new CEO for the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC)

Join us in welcoming John Silva to the Greater Lawrence Family Health Center (GLFHC) as the new CEO. Following a comprehensive national search conducted by ZurickDavis, John has returned to the northeast by taking this new position. Silva joins GLFHC with 40 years of experience in healthcare and community health centers.  In his most recent role at Morton Comprehensive Health Services in Tulsa, Oklahoma, John has served as President and Chief Executive Officer since 2010. Under Silva’s leadership, the Health Center has grown substantially: by doubling the number of locations, increasing provider productivity by nearly 40%, and growing patient billable visits by 33%. John has also served in various roles with the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), including serving as President in 1993.  As a healthcare consultant, John has provided support and training to NACHC regarding community health center management, strategic planning, MIS and EHR transition projects, and operational improvements.  Working actively with the federal government healthcare agencies, John has also served as a Federal Receiver for troubled healthcare organizations, implementing major organizational turn-around capacities.    Under his leadership, John has promoted growth and achieved strategic goals at several health centers, adding sites and services, improving productivity and increasing revenues, and successfully stewarding capital campaigns. David Martin named ED of Mass Health Council

David Martin, Esq. has been selected as the next Executive Director of the Massachusetts Health Council, a 95-year-old non-profit association whose mission is to improve and protect the health of Massachusetts residents.   “David has a wealth of knowledge, experience and leadership skills which will be a true asset to the Council. He is deeply committed to our mission and passionate about establishing a culture of health in the Commonwealth. His unique combination of talents makes him the perfect fit to continue the Council’s growth and advance its impact on public health,” said Michael Sroczynski, Vice President for Government Advocacy for the Massachusetts Hospital Association, who is President of the Council’s Board of Directors.   Most recently, Martin was VP of Operations for the Lown Institute. He has deep experience in health care policy roles, including Senior Director, Health Care Economics, Policy and Reimbursement at Covidien; Director of Health Care Policy and Strategy at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services; Manager of Policy and Legislative Affairs at Partners Healthcare System; and Chief of Staff and Legal Counsel for the Massachusetts State Senate’s Health Care Financing Committee.    Martin will succeed Susan Servais, who departs after serving 27 years as Executive Director. Servais led the Council in convening health care leaders and working with government officials on health care reform and a wide range of public health issues, such as access to health care, health care quality, reducing health care cost, and a focus on prevention and wellness.   The Massachusetts Health Council is a non-profit, non-partisan statewide organization of more than 150 governmental and voluntary agencies, consumer and advocacy groups, professional societies, and private corporations committed to improving and protecting the health of the residents of the Commonwealth. It is the oldest and largest health council in the country working to create healthier individuals and communities by concentrating on the pressing health care issues of access to care, quality, cost, and prevention.

Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak named new CEO of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts

We are pleased to announce that the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM) has selected Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak at its new CEO.  For the first time in its history, PPLM will have a physician at the helm.  Jennifer's strong background as a healthcare executive, her open and collaborative management style, and passion for PPLM's mission make her the right person for the job. 

As a primary care physician since 1993, Jennifer brings with her deep knowledge of the health care system and direct experience working with patients to keep them healthy.  In her most recent role as Regional Medical Director for Atrius Health, Jennifer led the three Boston practices that combined have an estimated $170 million in revenue, 200,000 patient visits, 80,000 primary care patients and 75 clinicians.  In addition to her responsibility for strategic planning and execution, Jennifer personally cared for 1,000 patients. 
Dr. Childs-Roshak’s interest in sexual and reproductive health care dates back to her time as a new Harvard graduate at the United Nations Populations Fund, inspired by their work to ensure universal access to reproductive health. During that same point in her life, she also volunteered with Planned Parenthood NYC.  Together, these experiences reinforced her belief in protecting a woman's personal decisions and propelled her into the field of medicine.   

With an MBA from Boston University's School of Management, Jennifer's clinical experience, operations experience, and commitment to serving the underserved are complemented by her strong business acumen. We are confident Jennifer will bring great perspective to PPLM as it continues it enhances the patient experience and navigates the state's rapidly-changing health care arena.

Dr. Mary Reed named VP Associate Chief Nurse and Pediatric Oncology at Boston Children's & DFCI

Boston Children’s Hospital has appointed Mary E. Poyner Reed, RN, PhD, CNRN, ANP, NEA-BC as Vice President, Associate Chief Nurse Medicine Patient Services (BCH) and Pediatric Oncology Patient Services (DFCI).     Dr. Reed brings a strong academic, operational and clinical leadership background to this role, which spans both academic medical centers. She is widely recognized for her clinical practice innovation in pediatric healthcare. She then assumed progressive clinical leadership responsibilities at Boston University Medical Centerin neuroscience and intensive care specialty units. Dr. Reed then became a Nurse Manager at Massachusetts General Hospital in both neuroscience specialty units and intensive care settings, which she held for a decade. In 2001, Dr. Reed joined Boston Children’s Hospital, most recently as Director, Neuroscience Nursing. In this capacity, she has led cross-continuum care management spanning a range of inpatient medical/surgical patient care needs in neuro-oncology, neurology, epilepsy, and sleep medicine as well as ambulatory services. Her team included nurse practitioners, clinical nurse specialists, clinical educators, a nurse researcher, a nurse manager, and a team of clinical coordinators.    Dr. Reed holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree (BSN) from the University of Maine, a Master’s of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree with a specialization in Primary Care, an Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) certification from Boston University, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing degree from Boston College. In addition, Mary has completed post-graduate training in clinical bioethics from the Harvard Medical School, executive education in value-based health care delivery and quality, patient safety, leadership and innovation from the Harvard Business School, and human factors engineering related to patient safety in complex systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.   In her new role, Mary will report through a dual structure to the respective SVPs of Patient Care Services and CNOs of Boston Children’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She will lead nursing and patient care services within the Boston Children’s Division of Patient Medicine Services and as the nurse executive leader for the Dana-Farber / Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. As a member of the Nurse Executive Committees of both Boston Children’s and DFCI, she will also collaborate closely with nursing and inter-professional colleagues within Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Terry J. Garfinkle, MD, MBA, FACS appointed CMO of Partners Community Physician Organization

Terry Garfinkle, MD has been appointed the Chief Medical Officer of Partners Community Physicians Organization (PCPO).  His prior role was at Steward St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center where he was the Vice President for Medical Affairs Dr.Garfinkle has spent much of his career in the Partners family, serving as the Medical Director of MGH/North Shore Center for Outpatient Care from its groundbreaking to its opening and successful operation. The importance of that major initiative is that Dr. Garfinkle led the development of inter-institutional collaboration in 13 subspecialty practices bringing together community based physicians and academic physicians.   He has also held the roles of Chief of Staff at NSMC and Chief of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at North Shore Medical Center and North Shore Children’s Hospital, a community-based, Partners-affiliated specialty practice.   As the Chief Medical Officer of PCPO,  Dr. Garfinkle will be engaged in the development and implementation of programs that improve clinical performance (quality, efficiency and safety of care) in the community segments of the Partners network. He will play a critical role in the relationships between Partners and the Network’s RSOs to advance performance and clinical integration. Dr. Garfinkle will also continue to practice medicine in a community setting.   Dr. Garfinkle was educated at the University of Pennsylvania. He continued his studies at the George Washington University School of Medicine where he received his MD and completed his residency training at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Garfinkle also earned an MBA from George Washington University School of Business and Public Policy.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Anne E. Doyle as President of Lasell Village, Inc. and Vice President for Lasell Village at Lasell College. Anne brings broad knowledge and experience in the health and senior care industry, and a passion for innovation that encourages healthy, engaged lives.  She most recently served as COO and Senior VP for Business Development at Connected Living, Inc., a technology company providing engagement and enrichment opportunities for seniors throughout the country.  Previously she served as COO for the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts. Previously Anne held senior positions at Tufts Health Plan and Fallon Community Health Plan.  At East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, Anne was the Director of the Massachusetts statewide rollout of the Program for All-inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), providing comprehensive care to frail elders living at home.  Anne worked in the Massachusetts Governor’s Budget Bureau as a Medicaid and public health analyst and has worked as a consultant for Deloitte Consulting. Anne recently completed ten years as Board Chair and Director of the Caring for Carcinoid Foundation and continues to serve as founding captain of a cycling team in the Pan Mass Challenge.  She has served on multiple health care boards and as Chair of the Lincoln School Committee. Anne earned a BA in Political Science from Tufts University and an MBA from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business; she was also a Fulbright Scholar researching housing and health options for elders in Sweden. Anne’s strong management skills and experience running the day-to-day operations of a variety of programs, organizations and facilities, coupled with her extensive senior and health care experience, will allow preservation of the distinctive characteristics of Lasell Village as they seek to elevate its visibility, stature and services.

Partners Community Healthcare, Inc. appoints Vice President, Network Development

Beth Gies has been appointed Vice President, Network Development at Partners Community Healthcare, Inc., the Partners physician network for community based physicians, where she reports to Lynn Malloy Stofer, President of PCHI. This promotion is the fourth role, each with increased breadth and responsibility for Beth at Partners. Most recently, she was Director of New Affiliations for Partners, where she led the acquisition of Neighborhood Health Plan (NHP) and other organizations, conducted due diligence, and managed strategic analyses and regulatory review processes. In this position, Beth led all merger related endeavors including due diligence, financial analyses and integration planning process for Partners. She reported to Peter Markell, EVP Administration, CFO and Treasurer of Partners. Her prior roles at Partners were Manager, Public Payor Policy and Operations for the Community Benefit Programs, and Director, Policy and Research, Government Affairs. Beth's professional experience before she joined Partners gave her significant experience at the State level working for the Commonwealth in the Division of Health Care Finance and Policy for five years as a Senior Health Policy Analyst and then as Manager of Policy and Compliance. In these roles, she was deeply involved with the Uncompensated Care Pool working group as lead staffer and the Access Working Group for the Massachusetts Health Care Task Force and the Finance Working Group as well. Beth led agency efforts to develop and interpret policies on free care eligibility and the scope of services covered by the Uncompensated Care Pool. This experience in leadership policy and finance roles for the underserved and the Commonwealth's policies on uncompensated care led to her provider side regulatory roles in policy and community benefit programs at Partners. Beth received her BA from Dartmouth College and Masters Degrees of Theological Studies and Public Policy from the Harvard Divinity School and the Kennedy School of Government.

Alana Arnold, PharmD and Board Certification Pharmacotherapy Specialist has been appointed the Director of Pharmacy at Boston Children's Hospital. Dr. Arnold is a pediatric specialist in pharmacy, who has been the Associate Director of Clinical Programs at Boston Children's and Infectious Disease Specialist. She was selected as the new Director after a national search of pediatric pharmacy directors and specialists. Dr. Arnold has been the Associate Director at Children's and holds numerous special roles as a long time member of the Pharmacy, Therapeutics Committee, and Chair of the Formulary Subcommittee. She was the pharmacy professional who partnered with Infectious Disease to develop the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and now co-chairs the Antimicrobial Subcommittee in which Children's Hospital is doing pioneering work. As an Infectious Disease Clinical Pharmacist, she rounds with the ID consult team, monitors patients on antimicrobial therapy and has led the Critical Care Pharmacy Team. Dr. Arnold continues to conduct research and clinical investigations and is a widely respected speaker at ASHP and PPAG.

Dr. Arnold is a champion of the essential collaboration with nursing colleagues to ensure the safety and effectiveness of patient care at the bedside. She is a key member of the teams that have been in the vanguard developing closed loop systems at Children's and CPOE, Bar Code Scanning, and more recently the installation of Smart Pumps.  Dr. Arnold derives professional and personal satisfaction in creating an environment that provides younger members of the team an opportunity to grow and to be a mentor. She believes the record of retaining BCH pharmacy residents to be a sign of success and the vigor of the intellectual and collaborative culture in the pharmacy. She is passionate about pediatric pharmacy safety and efficacy, and the science of pharmacy. As a pharmacy leader, she has a strong desire to learn and to support the staff to remain on the cutting edge of pediatric pharmacy practice and safety.

Voxent Health Care Technology Services appoints CEO

Deborah Gordon has recently joined Voxent Health Care Technologies as CEO.  Voxent is a management services organization serving about 50 affiliates of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America with IT, data solutions, and electronic health record services.  Ms. Gordon will lead the firm through a strategic planning process and subsequently implement the new strategic plan. Previously Ms. Gordon served as Chief Marketing and External Affairs Officer for Network Health, a Medicaid HMO that became part of Tufts Health Plan in 2011, where she served on the executive team for ten years.  Her earlier career was spent with Staples, Inc., the Parthenon Group, and John Snow International.  A 2103 Eisenhower Fellow and the recipient of many other honors, Ms. Gordon earned a BA in Biomedical Ethics from Brown University and an MBA with Distinction from Harvard.

Care New England appoints Vice President of Quality

Patricia Ellis, MPH has been appointed Vice President of Quality for the Care New England System. In this position, she reports to the Chief Medical Quality Officer in a newly created system position. Ms. Ellis is a professional whose career has been in performance improvement and quality. She arrives at Care New England after a distinguished tenure at St.Vincent's Hospital in Worcester. At St. Vincent's she led the Quality Management, Patient Safety, Hospital Accreditation, Risk Management and Infection Management Departments and was the Hospital Safety Officer. Her teams there were effective in improving the metrics in all areas, used LEAN as a tool to design improvement processes, and introduced standardized PI methodology in the work of all the departments in her portfolio. St. Vincent's achieved Leapfrog Patient Safety A grade and JCAHO Top Performer Status. During her tenure, the Hospital's core measures improved to the top decile performance and advanced to the top quartile in employee engagement scores for four consecutive years. Prior to St. Vincent's, Ms. Ellis was a Clinical Quality Consultant at UMass Memorial Health Care and worked with departments and performance improvement teams to measure performance, identify improvement priorities and facilitate improvement projects. She became a Certified Examiner for Massachusetts Performance Excellence Award (Malcolm Baldrige) and in that role examined applicants, conducted on-site surveys and with the team, wrote the assessment reports on applicants. Ms. Ellis brings leadership experience and a record of innovation, engagement, and quality and performance experience to Care New England. Care New England has published its strategic plan and balanced scorecard in its Annual Report and many of the initiatives underway and in the planning process fall into the quality and performance domain. She joined Care New England in June.

Care New England appoints Senior Vice President of Physician Organization

David Francis has been appointed Senior Vice President of the Physician Organization at Care New England (CNE) in Providence, Rhode Island. This is a new senior leadership role at CNE created to provide leadership for the physician groups across the CNE hospitals, including employed physicians and the largest independent network of primary care physicians and physician practices in Rhode Island, which in now affiliated with CNE. Mr. Francis begins his new role at CNE after serving as Vice President, Practice Management for the Steward Medical Group, where he had operational and financial responsibility of 190 multi-specialty practices across the Steward Medical Group Network in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, employing more than 550 physicians and 1600 staff. Prior to Steward, Mr. Francis was Executive Director of Revenue Cycle at the Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in Chicago, a $500M net revenue enterprise with 800 physicians in the faculty practice plan of Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Before his role at Northwestern, Mr. Francis worked at the Brigham and Women’s Physician Organization and Department of Surgery for eight years in financial and operational roles, as Director of Billing Operations, Compliance Officer and Desktop Support. In these roles, he was a member of the Partners HealthCare System Contracting Committee for Partners and the BWHPO and various multidisciplinary workgroups, including the Operations Planning  Group, the BWH/BWPO Ambulatory Metrics Group that were engaged in seminal work on performance measures, dashboard reporting for practice operations, customer satisfaction, and training development for front line staff. His first position after ten years of service in the Coast Guard was at Harvard Pilgrim HealthCare as a Provider Review and Senior Reimbursement Analyst.  Mr. Francis has an MBA in Health Care Administration from Simmons College.

Tufts Health Plan appoints Director of Clinical Pharmacy and Utilization Management

Susan Downard has been appointed the Director of Clinical Pharmacy and Utilization Management at the Tufts Health Plan. She enjoyed a career in various leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente – Mid-Atlantic Region, where she was the Director of Pharmacy and Therapeutic Services in a department of 750 (480 FTE) clinical pharmacists and pharmacy specialists. During her tenure as Director, Ms. Downard led the Medicare Part D implementation and oversaw the Medicare Part D prescription drug program.  While at Kaiser Permanente Mid-Atlantic, she also held leadership roles in Pharmacy Benefits and Analytics and was the Program Manager for Medicare and Pharmacy Implementations in the Benefit/Contract Administration Department. Prior to her pharmacy roles in the Mid-Atlantic Region, Ms. Downard was based in the Kaiser Permanente Pharmacy Department in the Denver/Boulder Region for eight years. In Denver, she was the Chief Pharmacist and then Pharmacy Operations Manager. These positions gave her experience with outpatient community pharmacy practice, mail order, supply chain management and strategy, and drug warehousing and distribution. Susan has been active in multiple roles to advance the profession of pharmacy, including professional association service and community volunteerism, as a member and officer of the American Pharmacists Association. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy at The Ohio State University.

BIDMC selects Lawrence Ramunno, MD MPH Senior Vice President for Care Management and Integration

Lawrence Ramunno, MD, MPH has been named the Senior Vice President for Care Management and Integration at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Ramunno joins the Medical Center in this new role after 20 years as Chief Quality Officer for the Northeast Health Care Quality Foundation, the Quality Improvement Organization for Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. In this role he worked with all the academic medical centers in the region, 72 community hospitals, 250 nursing homes, 80+ home health agencies and more than 400 physician practices.  In this capacity he led the design and implementation of interventions for improving patient care and safety, including substantial leadership in the areas of improving hospital based care, care transitions, and care in the pre- and post-acute environments. He has served in numerous national leadership roles in the QIO program.

In addition to his experience as Chief Quality Officer at NHCQF, Dr. Ramunno founded and practiced in the Conway Family Medicine/Saco River Medical Group, based in Conway, NH, providing primary care to 10,000 plus rural patients.  Dr. Ramunno has been selected  for 12 consecutive years to the Malcolm Baldrige National Board of Examiners in recognition of his accomplishments in the area of quality improvement and metrics with various types of organizations, who are clients of the Northeast Health Care Quality Foundation. The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award recognizes U.S. organizations  in the business, health care, education and nonprofit sectors for performance excellence - the only formal recognition of performance excellence of both public and private U.S. organizations given by the President of the United States. 
 
Dr. Ramunno received his BS from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and then graduated from the School of Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He completed his training in Family Medicine at the Franklin Square Hospital Center and went to Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health where he earned his MPH.

Dedham Medical Associates appoints Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of Dedham Medical Associates (DMA) announced the appointment of Roberta Zysman as the new Chief Executive Officer of the practice. DMA  is a founding member of Atrius Health and a leading multispecialty care practice in the greater Boston area for more than 70 years. DMA has two office sites, one in Dedham and the second in Norwood, where they are preparing to move into a substantially larger building in the summer of 2013. Ms. Zysman become the CEO of DMA after a distinguished tenure as the Executive Director of the Beth Israel Deaconess Physician's Organization (BIDPO), where she became the senior executive of the organization in 1996. BIDPO is the physician organization affiliated with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a major Harvard Medical School academic center and its network of affiliated community hospitals throughout Eastern MA. Ms. Zysman spearheaded BIDPO's effort to become one of the five Pioneer ACO's in MA and guided the growth of the organization to include community based IPA's, PHO's and a large multispecialty practice group. The provider organization increased by more than 50 percent during her administration to more than 1700 primary and specialty care physicians. At the time of her appointment at Dedham, BIDPO was an organization with total cost of care/global payment contract for 130K covered lives and contracts over $770M/year. Prior to her role at BIDPO, Ms. Zysman was the Director of Hospital Relations and Provider Network Services at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care for eight years. In that role, she led and developed network strategic provider partnerships and hospital  relations program, ancillary contracting,  and pioneered facility credentialing for the growing network at the health plan. Ms. Zysman is currently the President of the Health Care Financial Management Association for the MA-RI Chapter and Board member. Long Island Stony Brook Children's Hospital appoints Chief of Pediatric Cardiology

Physician in Chief and Chairman of Pediatrics, Margaret McGovern, MD PhD of Stony Brook Children’s Hospital has just announced the appointment of James C. Nielsen, MD as Chief of Pediatric Cardiology. Also importantly for Dr. Nielsen is that the Medical Center and the School have also announced the launch of a new independent Children’s Hospital at Stony Brook. Dr. Nielsen is currently an Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Radiology at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he is the Director, Pediatric and Congenital Non-Invasive Imaging and . Dr. Nielsen completed Medical School at Tulane and his Residency in Pediatrics. He then completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiology at Mount Sinai followed by a Senior Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship in MRI at Children’s Hospital of Boston.  He will begin as Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Stony Brook Children’s Hospital in March. Dr. Nielsen arrives at an exciting time at Stony Brook University Medical Center and the Stony Brook School of Medicine. The President and Dean have just announced the largest gift ever to a State University of New York of $150M gift from a former professor and an additional $35M challenge grant contributed by the State. These funds are ear marked for the Medical and Research Translation Building. It will provide Dr. Nielsen and other leaders the ability to recruit accomplished physician scientists and basic science researchers to a nationally recognized center for translational and basic scientific laboratories.

Mr. Lynch will bring his diverse experience and talents from leadership roles in the South Boston Community Health Center, Harvard Vanguard, Harvard Pilgrim Health Care and most recently at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts where he has served as a Director in several areas including hospital and physician contracting, in network development, and provider relations in behavioral health. Mr. Lynch’s broad understanding of health care delivery systems, insurance products, and providers will serve him well in this new role at Children’s. Pediatric Physician's Organization at Children's selects Chief Medical Officer

Susmita Pati, MD MPH is a pediatrician and health services researcher who joined Stony Brook Children's Services in November 2010as Division Chief of Primary Care Pediatrics and Associate Professor of Pediatrics. Dr. Pati earned an AB from Harvard-Radcliffe College, a MD from the University of Connecticut’s School of Medicine, and a MPH from Columbia University School of Public Health. Dr. Pati completed her pediatric residency, chief residency, and general academic fellowship at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Prior to joining Stony Brook, Dr. Pati was Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Supported by the National Institute for Child Health and Human Development and the Commonwealth Fund, Dr. Pati's current research projects examine predictors of Medicaid retention, the relationship between maternal health literacy and child health outcomes, and methods to tailor pediatric health supervision to individual needs. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Medical Center Nursery School in Northern Manhattan.

We are pleased to announce that the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center has selected Marcy Ravech to become their Vice President of Philanthropy and Community Development. Previously, Ms. Ravech has been Associate Director of Policy and Research wth Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation, and prior, had spent time with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and South Shore Mental Health. Ms. Ravech will bring her skill in fundraising and community relations, as well as a deep understanding of the Massachusetts provider community to The Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center in Worcester.
